The writers in grade 3 have been busy. Over the three weeks they have written words after words after words. During the first week we went through a mini writing process and wrote about ourselves. Besides that we have a collection of drafts written as prompts: personal narrative, inspired by illustration, fantasy writing, non-fiction writing.
In addition to two prompt writings this week we added two ideas how to get started to our toolbox.
First is writing about "Right Now"
The writer pays attention to her/his feelings and thoughts and records them after given prompt words:
After writing the students illustrated their pages and the drafts are hanging on display in our class.
The second idea collecting technique in our toolbox is called "Five-minute Friday"
We set a timer for five minutes, I wrote a word on the board and then we wrote whatever came to our mind in relation to this word. This Friday's word was "Friend." You can try the exercise. Set the timer. Go write!
